Science Class on March 15

Hi everyone!
In today’s class we did two main things. We talked about Japan and the Earth.

First Miss D. checked our moon homework.
Than she explained to us what happened in Japan in the last few days.
The picture on the right side shows some of the houses that collapsed because of the earthquake and the tsunami in Japan.
The other problem in Japan at the moment are the nuclear reactors which explode. Click
here to see how nuclear reactor #3 explodes. It is pretty scary.

After we finished talking about Japan we went on to our actual topic, the Earth. The symbol of the Earth is a circle with a cross in the middle as you can see it on the left side. (If you can't see it click on it and it will become bigger). The four parts stand for the four elements.
Rotation: The Earth spinning around its own exes.
The Earths rotation takes 23 hours and 59 minutes. This happens counterclockwise.
Revolution: The Earth traveling around the Sun.
This process takes 365 1/4 days =365 days and 5 hours.
You can prove that a year is 365 1/4 days long, because of the Lap year every 4 years when 4 times 1/4 day makes one. This is when there is a February 29.
The distance on Earth is measured with longitudes and latitudes.
The prime meridian is at 0 degrees longitude.
The equator is at 0 degrees latitude.
The other two very important latitude lines are tropic of cancer, tropic of Capricorn. Tropic of Cancer is located at 23.5° N and the Tropic of Capricorn is located at 23.5° S.

This webpage gives you very interesting scientific facts about the Earth.

Here are some interesting facts about the Earth.

We didn't have homework, but you can still check out Moodle.

I hope you liked it.
The next scribe is Gio.

  1. Wow Terez!!!
I can't believe what an improvement you have made! Your English is excellent, you have a picture with a caption, great links, nice colors, and very good detail! The few things you could have improved are not using gray as a color; it is very hard to read, and check your info; I don't know if I'm correct, but I think that Ms. D said that one Earth rotation takes 23 hours and 56 minutes. You could have also explained what happens when the nuclear reactors in Japan explode and why Ms. D thought it was so important for us to know. The type of year that happens every 4 years is a leap year, not a lap year. Other than that, I am really impressed with your improvement! Keep it going this way! :)

  2. Terez - nice work here on your second scribe post - excellent improvement from your first. Your hyperlinks are definitely your strongest points. Nice choice for Earth facts and I like the picture you drew. Your spelling and grammar is a bit off in places. Plus I do think you could have gone into more depth about the nuclear crisis in Japan, as we discussed it for quite a while during class. Nice coverage of the notes we took about Earth and I think you included everything we covered in that section of the class. Keep in mind you could use some bold words in places to have things stand out better, and some paragraph breaks would have helped the overall format. Your title and labels look good. Great improvement overall! ~Ms. D.

  3. Hey Terez.
This is a good post. Everything is included: titles, date, labels, pictures, hyperlinks, and I like the video about the explosion. It seemed like a rough copy of your post, because you didn't explain anything about the catastrophe in Japan and why is it so horrible for the Earth. Also, the rotation and revolution is so interesting and it would be better to include some videos(NASA's are the best). You could also add subtitles, different sizes of fonts, remove the italic font(because it is hard to read), to make your post eye-catching and appealing. Overall it is a great improvement from your last post. Keep up the good work.
    Dave :-D

  4. Hello Terez! This post is a good post! I really enjoyed reading it! You have nice pictures (I mean not nice, but good that you included pictures!) Your post is a bit too short, so next time please make it longer! The color you used was hard for me to read, and next time please don't use Italics and try using different colors. Your grammar has mistakes. And I really like that you included Japan explosions, but may be you should explain more about nuclear reactions and more detailed information needed. But it was still interesting to read and I liked it!
    Good Work!!!! ;)

  5. Hi there Terez,
This is a great post! You included pictures and had great colors as well as great links and readable font. Your post is a bit short though, and I think you could have been more thorough with your science, since it was a bit confusing at times. As Viktor said, you should not put gray as a color, because it is really hard to read. You had excitement, which is always great, and you had a lot of information. You have good spelling and grammar. I like the video you had about the explosion, even though at the end it was a bit weird. Like Dave said, you could have added a few videos that showed the revolution of the earth. Overall, great improvement and great post!
