Friday, March 18th

During class on Friday, we first went over our homework.
Our homework was to find out:
How many divisions of NASA there are, what they are, and where they are located. Then, we also had to find what ESA stands for, where it is located, and which countries are involved in it.

The answers to our homework were:
There are 15 divisions on NASA (including NASA
headquarters). They are:
(Division- Location)
NASA headquarters
- Washington DC
Marshall
- AL
Ames
- CA
Goddard- MD
Johnson
- TX
Kennedy- FL
JPL
- CA
Langley
- VA
Glenn
- OH
Dryden
- CA
White Sands
- NM
Stennis
- MS

Wallaps
- VA
IV & V Facility
- WV
Plum Brook- OH

Second, we went over our homework for the next three weeks.
1. We had a APOD due Tuesday at 8:00. (We can send Ms. D a rough draft on Monday)
2. For Thursday, we have a Ted Talk due, on anybody presenting astronomy related topics.
3. And due Friday, we have our last blog comment due.
For the other two weeks, you can click here and you will be able to see what our homework is.

After that, we talked more about the "super moon" (below),

an
d then we watched a video about how the MESSENGER entered Mercury's orbit, and how scientists are making it get into Mercury's orbit.
If you click here you will be able to see a few
photos, and captions of the MESSENGER around Mercury.

We also watched a video about the moon, were it spoke about apogees and perigees.
An apogee is when the moon is farther away from the Earth, and a perigee is when the moon is closer to the Earth.

We drew a diagram which explained all that. Since I cannot draw the diagram, here is a picture that explains what they are in a simple way.

And that is all that we covered in class on Friday.

The next scribe
is Sophie. :D

  1. Hi Iva!
This is a great post! I love the way you used colors, pictures, and detail. It was nice that you added a link to Moodle and another link, but you could have explained more about the Super Moon. You also only gave the answers to the first part of the homework. You also could have explained that we have to write a paragraph about the TED talk, etc. I like your explanation of an apogee and a perigee, but I think that you could have explained more about how often the Super Moon happens, what MESSENGER is, etc. Other than that, your labels are correct, you had a picture (with a caption!), and you made your post easy to read! Big improvement from last quarter! :)

  2. Iva - nice post here this quarter. Your spelling, grammar, sentence structure and punctuation look great. The format at times is hard to follow, due to spacing issues and colors used. I agree with Viktor in that you forgot the answers to the ESA questions. Nice coverage of the NASA question. Your information about Messenger is fine, but the focus of Friday's class was the Super Moon and I think you could have gone into that further and even linked to the movie I showed during class. Thanks for linking to Moodle and the Messenger site, but I do think you could have had one more link and a few more pictures that went even further into what we covered. Good captions on the pictures you do have. You didn't really cover what we went through for seasons and we finished labeling the image during this class. Your labels don't cover everything. Finally, your coverage of apogee and perigee is very thorough and I love the picture you included. Good job overall! ~Ms. D.

  3. Hey Iva,
First of all, I really like your post! You had good use of colors and I like the fact that you used links! Next time you should put more pictures, but for the pictures that you have I liked that you put captions under them. I know that your main focus in class wasn't about the supermoon, but you could have added a bit more information about it. Next time you should also include what the TED talk is because some people, like me, couldn't understand it.
    Overall great post!

  4. Hi Iva,
I really liked your post, but there were both positives and negatives! I liked your use of colors because they were easy to read. I also liked that you hyperlinked the words and not the actual website (I did the same thing), and they work (most peoples' don't work)! The fact that you put the 8th grades homework was really helpfull, I thought! I also liked your picture of the full (super) moon and the other picture about the apogee and perigee; plus you added the meanings of these words which was great! I also liked that you put the answers for the homework, but you didn't give the answers about the ESA so I had no idea what that was. Next time you should also put more pictures! You also could've added what is a Ted Talk and APOD because I had no idea what those two were. Also I saw a apelling mistake somewhere in your post, but overall your spelling and grammar were good (I think). Also next time put more information because right now I think that you only showed your homework to Ms.D, corrected it in class, discussed about the homeworks due, and the full (super) moon.
    Over all....GREAT POST!!!!

  5. Hi there Iva,
Nice post! You had great colors and your font was simple and easy to read. You had great information, but you were careful not to bore the reader by showing excitement in your post! You hyperlinked, which is great, but your link is hard to find because of the color and you only have one. You also forgot to put captions for your pictures! It was great that you put your homework, but you also could have added a video or "fun" link showing what you did in class or that explained the super full moon. I agree with Jakub with most of his statements about your blog- some parts were confusing, and you could have explained them better. Your spelling and grammar were great! Yuo also could have added more detail on what was actually going on in class, d+since it is hard to see. Overall- Nice post, but with a few improvements to be made!
