Saturn

This blog post is about the 6th planet from the sun, Saturn.

This is Saturn

Cronus, the Greek titan and god of agriculture and time, is the name given

One year on Saturn is about 30 years on Earth and one day is about 10to Saturn. The Roman god name is Saturn.

Saturn is the second largest planet, after Jupiter, off course. Its diameter is 120,5

36 km long at

the equator. Its mass is 5.6926 kg, and its density is 687 kg/m3, which makes it the only planet to float on water!

hours on Earth.

Cronus/Saturn

Climate on Saturn has a very weird climate. It has one of the fastest winds in the solar system going up to

30 km/m. The Great White Spot happens every year on Saturn, which means it is every year on Earth. It was discovered in1933 by the British comedian Will Hay.

Saturn is the second gas planet in the solar system. It is composed out of 96.3% hydrogen and 3.25% helium. It also has some sulfur in it because sulfur makes it look yellow.

Saturn is 1.35 billion km away from the sun at the minimum. It is also known as 9.02418482 AU. The maximum distance from the sun is 1.5 billion km which is also 10.026872 AU.

Saturn

has a lot of moons. It has 62 moons, 53 named moons and 9 provisional moons. All the moons are named after Saturn’s brothers and sisters.

Titan is Saturn’s lar

gest moon. It is the 2nd largest in the solar system. Its revolution around Saturn is 16 days. It als

o has clouds and an atmosphere. It was discov

ered by Christiaan Huygens on March 25, 1655.

Hyperion(above) is the largest irregular body in the solar system. It has a potato shape. It is thought to be the remaining of a bigger moon that had a collision and it was discovered by William Lassell in 1848, and also William Cranch Bond and his son George Phillips Bond.

Enceladus is a very cold moon because it reflects almost 100% of the sun light

that hits its surface. It also has an atmosphere. Some ice particles where found on the South Pole if th

e moon. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1789.

Saturn has the most complex rings in the solar system. To learn more about the rings go here http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/profile.cfm?Object=Saturn&Display=Rings or http://www.solarviews.com/eng/saturnrings.htm

There were four missions sent to Saturn. Pioneer 11 was the first in 1979. Then Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. And then there is the Cassini.

Cassi

ni arrived on July 1, 2004. It finished its 4 year orbit in 2008 and it finished the first extended mission in 2010. The Cassini Solstice Mission will be the 2nd extended mission that will go until September 2017

Interesting Facts:

Galileo Galilee though that Saturn has ears- rings- 1610

Christiaan Huygens corrected Galileo by finding the rings with the telescope he built with a magnification of 50 – 1655

London underground logo takes from Saturn with its rings

Saturn has southern lights

It rained methane on Titan

  1. Hi Noam,
I really liked how you organized you blog post. I also liked all the different pictures that you added, although the captions are not located right next to, or under the picture. Some sentences in your blog post are also spaced out differently, which can be confusing to the reader. Instead of adding a link to describing the complex rings that surround Saturn, you could have given a few facts to the links first.
    All in all, nice post!

  2. Noam,
Your post went over what you did in class which was good but there are some things that need to be improved. First off there were a lot of grammer mistakes and typos. You also did not put the science of your planet or the interesting facts. You also did not include the people who discovered it which we discussed in class during your presentation. The Assinians discovered it. Your titles were often half the word. You should not have you title be only half a word. Your link was good so I will give you that. But there is a lot of room for improvement.

  3. Noam,
While your post has some good parts to it is very hard to read because of formatting grammar and misplaced line-breaks. It was a good idea to include a link to a NASA article about the rings. You also did a good job including both AU and km measurements. However multiple times in the post an untimely line break separates a word making the text in fluent and confusing. Also you should have changed the discoverer to the Assinians because Ms. D pointed out that they were the actual discovers during your presentation. Your caption for the sickle is inconclusive and you should have explained it and what it meant to the post because currently it does not fit in. Also on your last interesting fact you are talking in the past tense when it should be present because it still rains methane on titan. Also it is strange that you include the date for one of the missions but not for the others. Also you forgot to cover the average orbit distance from the sun. Your first sentence also make no grammatical sense you should have said Saturn was named after...... If you had proofread the post it probably would have been easier to read and and would have made more sense.

  4. Hi Noam,
I think that your scribe post is pretty good. There are some good parts and there are some parts that you could work on. One part of your post that was good is that you used captions for your pictures. One good scientific aspect of your post that was good was your links. Some of your post needs work. One thing you should work on is your grammar. One example of bad grammar is when you said "Cronus, the Greek titan and god of agriculture and time, is the name given". I think that you could have reworded that sentence. One science aspect of your post that can be improved is your caption for the picture of Saturn. Your caption said "This is Saturn". I think that you could have mentioned some interesting parts of the picture (Rings, The color, Shape). Another caption you could have gone more in depth with was the picture of a sickle. Don't just say "Sickle". Tell us why its a sickle. When I was reading your post I also noticed that there are a few formatting errors. Many times in your post you have skipped lines unnecessarily. One example of this was when you wrote " Some ice particles where found on the South Pole if th
e moon. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1789." Another thing that you could have improved was your labels. Not just Noam, Saturn. Include Scribe Post. Anyways good post, just work on those things.

  5. Hey Noam,
Your Blog is not very organized and hard and not fun to read. Also you haven't used hyperlinks or different colours. You don't really have any form in your Blog and everything is messed up. But you do have enough and also good pictures. I don't think that the data that you have used at the sulfur can be correct, because 0.45% won’t colour the whole planet in such a bright yellow. I like the Hyperion paragraph because it is organized and good. I think that you could have done better than that.

  6. Noam - You have definitely covered all of the information you presented in class and posted on time. However, there are grammar, spelling and punctuation errors throughout the piece. Plus, I am not sure what happened with a lot of your sentences, but there are many weird line breaks (in the middle of words and phrases and sentences!). This really makes your format and organization difficult to follow for the reader. I like all of the pictures you used, but some of them are not captioned well. Nice work with your links about the rings and to Moodle, but you did not link to your notes specifically. Also, you are missing the date in your title and your labels are incomplete. There are some aspects you have not improved and some you have - especially your media choices. Make sure to pay closer attention to the rubric before posting your final version. ~Ms. D.

  7. Hi Noam,
This is a good post! You had very much detail, great interesting facts, and a nice video. There is, of course, some room for improvement. Like Ms, D said, there are many annoying line breaks in the post which makes everything very confusing. You should preview your post before publishing. You also did not include the date in your title, your labels are incorrect, and the whole post is completely black which makes it very boring. You also have no exciting voice in it. Your pictures are captioned although you have done nothing to show that you are writing a caption (bold, italics, etc) and you have a lot of spelling mistakes. I didn't understand the sentence "The Great White Spot happens every year on Saturn, which means it is every year on Earth." because one year in Saturn isn't the same as one year on Earth. Several of your sentences are incomplete as well. When you wrote your interesting facts, there were no bullets in front of the text which makes it look like you are just writing sentences for fun. You are missing periods after many sentences too. One last thing - its not Galileo Galilee - its Galileo Galilei! Even though you could improve in these fields, you had great data and you definitely put effort into this. I think that you have improved a lot as a blogger and you should keep the good work up! :)
