Science Class on Thursday (9th december)

First our science class was interrupted by the French-students who had to leave for the sing-training. While the main group (the French-students) were singing, the others already started doing our homework for Friday, which was to finish the cell cycle and Mitosis-sheet. After the rest of the class arrived back, we started reviewing and discussing Photosynthesis, cellular respiration, Fermentation and the new discovered bacteria, that only needs Arsenic to survive, for the quiz we will have on THURSDAY not on Tuesday.

Then we started the main work of the day which was to fill in the rest of cell cycle-sheet which we didn’t understand or didn’t do for homework. First of all there are two types of Cells.

Eukaryote Cells:

Prokaryote Cells:

- have a nucleus

- have

no nucleus

- go through cell cycle

- do not go through cell cycle

- are bacterias

- break in half (binary fission)

Cell Cycle:

Interphase:

Starting at the G1-Phase (1st growth-phase) obviously the cells grow and start creating organelles and begin metabolism. Sometimes cells jump out of the G1-phase to the G0-phase in which they stop dividing (e.g. heart-cells, nerve cells).

The next phase is the S-phase (synthesis-phase) in which chromosomes are getting copied. Then the G2-phase (2nd growth-phase) follows in which the cells prepare for cell division.

M-phase (mitotic-phase):

After completing the Interphase successful the cells move into the Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and the final phase, the Telophase. In this class we haven’t discussed the M-phase we only filled out the cell cycle with them.

While filling out the cell cycle-sheet we also reviewed the 6 kingdoms which are:

· Animal E

· Fungi E

· Plant E

· Moneran P/E (single cell)

· Archbacteria P (can be single a cell)

· Protists E (single cell)

Then we wrote the names of the different phases at the top of the mitosis part (of an animal cell) of the cell cycle sheet as training. The drawings were already suppose to be done for homework.

Homework was to finish the Cell Cycle and Mitosis-sheet Ms. D. gave us, but don’t do page 10 and 11. (More information on the moodle-web-site).

  1. Hi Val, I think that this is a quite good post that covers everythign we did in class! You could have explained the pictures you put in a bit more, and you could've explained what it means when you write "Potists E", "Archbacteria P", etc. It was good that you put the most important parts in red and I liked your table! You have no labels, though. You need to add them! Other than that, this is a great post! Nice job!

  2. Good post Val. The cell cycle picture is good and helpful, however it makes it a bit hard to read the text next to it. Also you should have explained what E and P mean. Also for arch bacteria you should have written can be single or multiple cellular. Also you could have added that eye cells and egg cells also go to G0(no subscript sorry). In addition for the chart, which is useful, you could have bulleted the facts in one cell. Overall it is a nice post.

  3. Hey Val,
This was a cool post! I liked your picture and the graph. I also liked that you included some websites (which people aren't doing). I also liked that you put the main words in red. And I liked that you mentioned the coming up quiz (for you guys) and the homework. I think that you should explain the picture that you put on your post because I have no idea what it's shwing eventhough you wrote the defenitions of the phases. I also think you should add some color to make the post look better. I also think that you should explain the words that are in red in this paragraph:

"After completing the Interphase successful the cells move into the Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and the final phase, the Telophase. In this class we haven’t discussed the M-phase we only filled out the cell cycle with them."

Overall nice job and keep it up!!!

  4. Val - Not bad for your first Scribe Post, but you need to read through the rubric more carefully to follow all directions. I like your included image, but you could have explained it a bit or at least had a caption of what it is showing. Your font choice for color and size are well chosen, and the red for the important words makes them stand out and your spelling looks great. You have included most of what we covered during class, although the section about the Kingdoms is a bit confusing and needs to be explained more fully, especially the E & P part. Finally, please do not forget to label your post (tags). This is a requirement so I can find your work easier. Again, not bad for your first post, but there is room for improvement. ~Ms. D.

  5. Hey Val, I think that for your first post ever, you did a good job! You covered everything that happened that day, and you made a chart that actually worked and looked clear and was easy to follow. Your picture was also good and I liked how it was very colorful and how it showed the mitotic phase neatly and understandably! Maybe a grammar and spell check would be good too, because you did make a few mistakes. The two links to Moodle were a good idea but I still think that a youtube movie would be a good idea. And you could have put labels at the end of your scribe post! In my opinion, you could have explaind the 6 kingdoms more and what E and P mean, because some one who wasn't in the class that day would not understand. Overall, you did a good job on your first scribe post!

  6. Good post Val!!! For your first post this post is okay. It has a weird picture (may be with more pictures your post would look better. Plus, I don't think "the French class students" thing was necessary , because it has nothing to do with science! Your post is actually easy to read, though I would recommend you some more colors in your post. But I can't really judje you here, since it's the first post you did in your whole life!!!

  7. Hi,
The scribe post is very good. It covered everything that we did during class. Some parts were confusing though. I liked that you used a simple font and not too many colors. You did a good job on explaining the cell cycle and you also posted a helping picture. All in all, good scribe post!

  8. Hey Val! The red words and font were nice and easy to read, but you should have put labels. Also, you might want to say what the E (Eukaryote) and P (Prokaryote) mean next to the 6 kingdoms because people who weren't in our class would have no idea. The picture was good to add, but a little confusing for others who don't know the about the Cell Cycle, and the hyperlinks were good too. Overall great job!

  9. Hi Val,
This is a really good first post. I liked how you have pictures and links to Moodle and that you put the homework. I like how you explained the eukaryote cells and prokaryote cells and what they are. It was a good idea to put what the cell cycle is, and it is good that you explained it. I think your spelling is right, but don’t trust me on that. You could have explained the picture a little bit. Overall nice first post Val.

  10. Hi there Val,
I really liked your post! It was very informative, and explained thoroughly what you did in class. You have a couple of spelling and grammar mistakes. You could have added a bit more colors to make the post more interesting to read. You included the homework you had, and you put a link to moodle, which is great! I really liked the table that you put at the start with the different types of cells. Your picture was nice, but you could have added a couple more to catch the reader's attention. You also could have added one or two more links that explained what you did in class, so that people that weren't there can understand even better the concept of cells. You also forgot to put labels. This is a great first post, and you only have some tiny mistakes to fix. Keep up the good work!
