Punnett Squares on Thursday, February 3 and Dragon Genetics on Friday, February 4

Hi Everyone
On Thursday and Friday we mainly focused on doing the Punnett Square problems and did a couple of other things.
The first thing we did on Thursday was go through the Punnett Squares Sheet. Which was due for homework. If you lost it and would like to go over it again you can find it here. After that we were given a choice of what we wanted to do. It was either to work on a new sheet which is due tomorrow or it was to do something on a website called Dragon Genetics. In the end the class decided to do the sheet which is called More Punnett Square Problems. And for the rest of the class we did the sheet that is due tomorrow. This also applies to people that did Math Counts. Remember to print it from Moodle if you already lost it. If you are unclear about Punnett Squares this video might help.
The picture below shows two different alleles matched up using a Punnett Square. The t means the height. An uppercase T means taller. A lower case means shorter. You can see that the parent on the left is taller because he has a dominant uppercase T and a recessive lowercase t. The top parent has two recessive alleles which means that he/she is shorter.
On Friday's class we went to the computer lab and did the activity that we chose not to do. We did the Dragon Genetics. That can be found here. The assignment we did on Friday was a website in which we chose the correct traits for a dragon given the alleles of the parents. After we did this we were free to do whichever topic we wanted from the we
bsite. This included things like incomplete dominance and co-dominance and how does DNA work.

Thanks for reading!
I almost forgot. The Next Scribe is Dan.

  1. Hi Reza!
This post is pretty good! I like that you put in good hyperlinks, nice pictures, and a quite good amount of detail. You have done the labels wrong, though; you need to have the topic of the class, your first name, and "scribe post" as labels. I think that you could have had more color as well, and you could have broken up the paragraph into different sections, because it looks very boring. You could've filled in the Punnett Square and you could have made the homework more clear. Also, we did not do Dragon Genetics on Thursday; we did the Genetics Quiz, Punnett Squares & DNA building website (http://www.zerobio.com/mendel1a.htm). I liked your description of the Dragon Genetics, and I liked that you kept your post simple. At one point, you accidentally put in a new row in the middle of a word, the "After we did this we were free to do whichever topic we wanted from the website" part. You could've added some emotion into the post, such as exclamation points, as well. Other than that, your post is good and clear and easy to understand. Keep it up! :)

  2. Hi there, Reza!
Great post! You put many links, which is great, and you also had some pictures. You could add a couple more of them, though. As Viktor said, your labels are wrong, so you should definitely fix that. You explained well what was going on in class, and your font was good and clear to read. You could have added a bit of color, since your post looks a bit dull. Your post sent a clear message of what happened to the reader, but I still think that you could have been a bit more thorough, since you didn't write much. I found it very good that you had the picture of Gregor Mendel. You could have added some excitement in your post, since like this, it looks pretty boring. Though, you showed through your writing that you knew what was going on in class. Even though I wasn't in class, I understood what you did. I mostly understood the Punnett Square, but you could have added a bit more on that for anyone that missed or didn't attend the class. Overall, great first scribe post of the quarter!

  3. Hi Reza,
I liked your post, usually I say "you didn't have a wide variation of text color" but even though you don't, it made your text look a lot more professional and helped your hyper links stand out. I also thought that you had a great amount of text and it was easy to understand until you got to the text you wrote about the punnett squares, because you could have made it a little more clear. One other problem I noticed was that in your labels you did not have your name. Aside from that, your 2 pictures were good and overall I thought that this was a really great post!

  4. Hi Reza!
I like your post a lot because I think it is a very good idea to put hyperlinks and I thought you put good pictures. But there are some things I would have to done to improve this post a bit- First, you should have revised it a bit more maybe, because you accidentally put a space in the word "website". Also, I thought you added a bit too many labels even thought it was good that you put them. You could have instead added only "Dragons, Genetics, Punnett Squares, Reza, " Because these are the 3 main topics you included. Also you could have given the answers to the homework you had done to make it a bit longer and you could have explained what alleles are because I didn't understand. You could then have explained more what questions were on the sheet you worked on and what you had to do on the Dragon Genetics website even though I did like that you put a hyperlink also for that, because it shows you actually worked on it and took the time to find the website once more. You should have added something to catch the reader’s attention like putting some suspense when you chose the scribe or seeming happier of the topic of the day by sounding exited. I think you could have added more pictures though.
Good Post overall, keep up the good work!

  5. Hy Reza!
I really liked your post and felt like you had covered everything you have don in class (I’m not shore because I wasn't there.). I liked your pictures and videos. You once pressed enter where you weren't supposed to, but besides that you didn't have spelling mistakes. I liked that you explained the picture about pannett squares. It is a good post.

  6. Reza - nice work on your post overall. You have some good improvements from last quarter. Your links are all working and the YouTube video is helpful and can be understood clearly. Your labels, grammar, spelling and punctuations are good, but you forgot "Scribe Post". I would also say the one area you need to improve is your explanation and inclusion of science vocabulary - especially with the picture of the punnett square. You could have include homozygous, heterozygous, dominant, recessive - to make your post more scientifically focused. I can tell that you did follow all direction and looked at the rubric before posting - yahoo!! ~Ms. D.

  7. Hi Reza!
I really liked your blog post. You had a good link to Youtube, and you didn't forget to add a link to Moodle. I liked your use of pictures as well. I think it was good that you explained your picture and told the readers the difference between a dominant and recessive trait. Maybe you could have included some more vocabulary in your post, since you only really discussed traits and punnett squares. Althogether, I really enjoyed your scribe post.
